At least five people have been killed and 86 remain unaccounted for after the passenger ferry MV June Aster caught fire off the western Philippines, triggering a major search-and-rescue operation in difficult sea conditions. The ferry was travelling from Manila to Coron in Palawan province when flames engulfed the vessel on September 9. Its manifest listed 134 people on board, including 117 passengers and 17 crew members. The Philippine Coast Guard said 43 people had been rescued, while search teams continued looking for those still missing.
