America offered Apolinario Mabini his freedom. He said no. Multiple times. He was paralyzed from the waist down. He was carried everywhere on a hammock. And he was the most dangerous man in the Philippine Revolution. Born July 23, 1864 in Tanauan, Batangas — known as "The Brain of the Revolution" and "The Sublime Paralytic" — Mabini drafted the Malolos Constitution, one of the first democratic constitutions in Asia, and served as the First Prime Minister under President Aguinaldo. In 1900 — American forces captured him. They offered him the oath of allegiance. He refused. They exiled him to Guam. They offered again. He refused again. America had defeated the Philippine Army. America had captured the Brain of the Revolution. America couldn't make him say yes. He returned to the Philippines in 1903. He died shortly after — May 13, 1903.
