Not all museums are created equal. Casa Gorordo is proof. If you're trying to narrow down Cebu's many museums, keep Casa Gorordo on the list, paired with the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House nearby. Casa Gorordo is a beautifully preserved ancestral home in Parian, one of Cebu's oldest districts, built around 1850 and home to four generations of one family. What I really liked, though, is that it doesn't feel stuck in the past. The museum nicely incorporates technology — interactive and digital exhibits, motion-sensor displays, and guided tours that add the stories and context that make the rooms and artifacts much more interesting. My favorite spot? The azotea shaded by two flowering vines - yellow bells and bridal bouquet, the latter almost as old as the house itself. Large martavan jars are placed along the veranda, constantly filled with water to cool the breeze coming through the windows — basically the air conditioning of the 1800s. It's also beautifully maintained, plus a Bo's Coffee on the premises for a post-tour break and a gift shop worth browsing before you leave. ---------------------------- This is just one stop from our Bacolod → Cebu → Moalboal → Oslob → Dumaguete road trip.
