My first morning in Carcar, Cebu, started with one of my favorite ways to experience the Philippines — breakfast at a local public market.
I've always felt that if you really want to understand a city, you have to get away from the normal tourist spots and spend some time where the locals actually live, eat, shop, and go about their everyday lives. And this morning in Carcar was a perfect example of why.
I ended up discovering a small food stall run by a woman who learned her passion for cooking from her father, who owned a restaurant when she was growing up. Now she's following in his footsteps and carrying that tradition forward — and after trying her chorizo, I can honestly say she may make some of the best chorizo I've ever had!
For me, these are the experiences that make traveling special. It's not always about finding the biggest attraction or checking another tourist destination off the list. Sometimes it's simply sitting down for breakfast, talking to locals, trying something you've never eaten before, and getting a glimpse into everyday life.
This is Carcar, Cebu, from my perspective — no tourist itinerary, just a morning at the market and a chance to experience the Philippines as it really is.
