Becoming a Nurse Practitioner was never part of my original plan. In this personal and honest vlog, I share the story of how I went from studying Political Economy at UC Berkeley, to working in nonprofits and domestic violence services, to becoming a nurse, working in the ICU, and eventually pursuing graduate school at UCSF to become a Nurse Practitioner.
I also talk about some of the more difficult seasons of my life, including heartbreak, solo travel, the isolation of COVID, and the moment I realized I needed to start paying more attention to my mental health. Those experiences shaped how I see myself, how I care for others, and ultimately became part of my “why” as a healthcare provider.
One of the biggest reasons I became a Nurse Practitioner was because I wanted to become the provider I never had. I believe healthcare should be personal and human. Patients are more than their diagnoses, lab results, or medical histories. They have stories, experiences, fears, and hopes—and sometimes the most important thing we can do as providers is simply listen.
I’m still learning, still healing, and still figuring things out. But I’m learning to accept that I don’t have to be perfect or have everything figured out. This is my journey toward living more authentically, trusting myself, and continuing to do work that feels meaningful.
Thank you for being here and allowing me to share a little more of my story. ❤️
