Life-threatening conditions persist from Super Typhoon Nando

Life-threatening conditions persist over the northern portion of Northern Luzon as Super Typhoon ‘Nando’ passes very close to Babuyan Island. Babuyan Islands is now under the highest storm alert – Signal Number 5. Pagasa warns ‘Nando’ will be bringing destructive winds of more than 185 kilometers per hour. Heavy rainfall is also expected. Pagasa also warns of widespread damage to high-risk structures. The super typhoon may also result in almost total damage to structures of light materials, especially in highly exposed coastal areas. Read: https://tmt.news/2187972 Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla will press charges against individuals involved in violent incidents that marred yesterday’s largely peaceful anti-corruption rallies. Remulla described the rioters as “anarchists.” The peaceful gathering in Luneta and elsewhere escalated into violent clashes at Ayala Bridge, Mendiola, and Claro M. Recto Avenue. Two-hundred sixteen individuals were arrested for burning vehicles, throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails, and looting a nearby motel. Remulla says those who hurled Molotov cocktails at police may be charged with frustrated homicide. He stressed that no firearms were discharged by police during the clashes. The Manila Police District reported that ninety-three of their personnel sustained injuries. Mayor Isko personally inspected the clearing operations this morning. He says he will file criminal and civil charges against those who destroyed public and private property. After the closing program for the “Baha sa Luneta” protest, a group of men wearing masks and black shirts attacked the Manila Police District or M-P-D. The Manila mayor believes that the ones behind the damages were not the protesters of the event. The Mayors for Good Governance will launch a whistleblower hotline to expose irregularities in the DPWH flood control projects. However, the hotline will only accept reports from insiders. These include current and former D-P-W-H employees and licensed contractors with direct knowledge of the alleged anomalies. The mayors’ group says all reports will be handled with confidentiality and protection is guaranteed for informants. Verified cases will be endorsed to the Office of the Special Adviser, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure. Shell, Seaoil, Cleanfuel and Petrogazz announced that their gasoline prices will go up by one peso per liter and their diesel prices by eighty centavos per liter. Shell and Seaoil will also increase their kerosene prices by one peso per liter. Local oil companies say the price hikes were mostly due to the effects of the escalation of global conflicts.
