Millions of Americans will head to the polls on Tuesday for big races in New York, New Jersey and Virginia. In New York City, Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani has been leading the polls for months, as he takes on former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. The race for governor of New Jersey comes down to Republican Jack Ciattarelli and Democrat Mikie Sherrill, with Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and Democrat Abigail Spanberger battling it out in Virginia.
We are learning more tonight after President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Andrew Cuomo on Monday, just one day before the New York City mayoral election. President Trump said he could withhold federal funding from the city if Zohran Mamdani, who he labeled a "Communist", wins the mayoral election. "A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani," Trump added.
The US federal government shutdown is reaching record territory, but House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) says it's possible there could be some developments after Tuesday's elections. In the meantime, President Donald Trump is looking for some clarity after judges ruled Friday that the administration must continue to fund federal food assistance (SNAP) despite the shutdown. The program costs approximately $8 billion per month.
