Old Manila: The Forgotten City by the Bay?
What happened to the Manila that once faced proudly toward the bay?
In this journey through Old Manila, we explore a fascinating mix of history, faded grandeur, restored heritage and modern city life from the shores of Manila Bay to Intramuros and the streets of Malate.
We begin at Dolomite Beach, walk through Harbor Square, and visit the peaceful Paco Park before returning to Manila Bay for views from Coconut Grove at The Admiral Hotel and a look at Ruby Wong's Godown.
From there, we enter Intramuros, visiting Manila Cathedral, its historic plazas, the San Luis Complex, and Baluarte de San Diego Garden, with beautiful views across the old walls toward the Intramuros golf course.
We then step inside the iconic Manila Hotel, exploring its grand lobby and lounge and stopping at the historic Tap Room before heading to Malate, walking along Adriatico Street, discovering Manila's Korea Town and ending the day with Korean food.
This is not just a tour of Manila's landmarks. It's a look at a city shaped by centuries of history, the sea, war, commerce, migration and change.
Is Old Manila really a forgotten city by the bay or is it simply waiting to be rediscovered?
I think it is waiting to be rediscovered
