Opening of the 20th Congress: Senate of the Philippines

The Senate opens its first regular session of the 20th Congress on Monday, July 28. During the opening, senators are set to choose a new Senate president. To retain the post, Senator Chiz Escudero needs at least 13 votes. He is up against returning senator Tito Sotto, who has been vocal about his bid to challenge Escudero for the position Sotto held from 2018 to 2022.
