Rainfall expected until Wednesday — PAGASA

Good evening. Today is August 10th, and you're watching The Manila Times News Prime Our top story: Heavy rainfall across certain parts of the country is expected to last until Wednesday. That’s according to PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando. However, he said heavy rains will only be concentrated in Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. He also stressed that rainfall in those areas will no longer be as intense compared to the past couple of days. The Office of the Ombudsman is reviewing around ₱60 billion worth of flood control projects in Cebu. These projects were implemented over the past six years. Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said the review will focus on areas that have experienced flooding despite government spending on flood control. President Marcos has ordered all government agencies to accelerate the maintenance of flood control infrastructure. The President’s order came after intense rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, hit several areas in Luzon. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro noted improvements in water recession rates in areas such as Navotas, Valenzuela, Manila, and G. Araneta Avenue — areas that historically suffered from deep, prolonged floodwaters. Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon blew his top after seeing fresh potholes on EDSA in Makati. Dizon inspected the damaged section along the Buendia southbound stretch of EDSA following days of heavy rain. The potholes were apparently caused by the early deterioration of the asphalt. The Public Works Secretary immediately ordered the contractor to repair the potholes, saying that the government will not pay for it. He also noted that last Saturday a collapsed wall occupied two lanes of the northbound side of EDSA, causing heavy traffic. Dizon said the wall was built with substandard materials.
