“Be disruptors for good. The status quo is not okay.”
Broadcast journalist Maria Jessica A. Soho addressed the Class of 2025 at the 114th Commencement Exercises of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman on July 6, urging graduates to ask difficult questions, listen closely, and act with integrity.
Soho is one of the most awarded broadcast journalists in Philippine history, widely recognized for her work in investigative journalism. She is the first Filipino to receive the George Foster Peabody Award and has been named Reader’s Digest Asia’s “Most Trusted TV Host for News and Current Affairs” for 13 consecutive years. In 2018, she was honored with the Gawad Plaridel—the highest award given by the UP Diliman College of Media and Communication—for her commitment to ethical, public service–oriented media practice. She is also the first graduate of the college to receive the distinction.
